Dr. Joanne Lemieux appointed as the Vice-Dean of Research for the Faculty of Medicine & Dentistry

Dr. M. Joanne Lemieux from the Biochemistry Department has been named as the Vice-Dean of Research (basic) for the Faculty of Medicine & Dentistry. 5 year appointment beginning July 1st, 2025

Dr. M. Joanne Lemieux

The Faculty of Medicine & Dentistry is pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. M. Joanne Lemieux as vice-dean, research (basic) for a five-year term commencing July 1, 2025. 

Dr. Lemieux has been at the 伊人直播 since 2002, when she began postdoctoral studies in biochemistry and structural biology in the FoMD.

Her academic career began with a BSc in biochemistry at Dalhousie University (‘91), followed by an MSc in biochemistry and neuroscience also at Dalhousie (‘94), and a PhD in structural biology at New York University (‘02). 

Dr. Lemieux is currently a professor in the Department of Biochemistry. She was director of the multi-departmental  from 2018-23, and is currently the executive scientific director of the , launched by the federal government in 2023 as one of five centres across Canada bringing together top scientists to improve the nation’s pandemic readiness. She will be stepping down from her role in the PRAIRIE Hub when her term as vice-dean begins.

 focuses on understanding the function of proteins in health and disease. Using X-ray crystallography, cryoEM, and other biophysical techniques, she and her team work to reveal structural, functional and mechanistic details of proteins with the goal of supporting the development of new drugs and vaccines. She is a member of the , , the , and the .

Dr. Lemieux looks forward to the collaborative work of vice-dean, research (basic) alongside Dr. Neesh Pannu, vice-dean, research (clinical).
