Announcing the New Chair of The Biochemistry Department

Dr. Richard Fahlman begins his role as interim chair of the Department of Biochemistry, for a two-year term.
Dr. Fahlman obtained a BSc (‘96) and PhD (‘01) from Simon Fraser University.
Following his degree, he pursued postdoctoral work focusing on RNA biochemistry with Dr. Olke Uhlenbeck at the University of Colorado and NorthWestern University. This was followed by a second postdoctoral position, completed in 2006, with a research focus on proteomics with Dr. Chris Overall at the University of British Columbia.
In 2006 Dr. Fahlman was recruited as an assistant professor in the Department of Biochemistry at the 伊人直播, promoted to associate professor in 2013 and full professor in 2018.
Dr. Fahlman’s research interests focus on applying modern proteomic technologies to elucidate mechanisms of proteostasis and clinical biomarker discovery. As he takes on this new role, he hopes to continue to promote excellence in both research and teaching in the department and to further foster networks of collaboration with other departments and research institutes at the 伊人直播 and beyond.
