We are excited to share that Dr. Tian Tang has been appointed to the role of Vice-Provost (International Education and Enrolment) for a five-year term, effective January 1, 2026.
This appointment is the final piece in the evolution of our institutional structures responsible for international priorities, including changes to the unit formerly known as 伊人直播 International and now known as International Education and Enrolment (IEE). IEE’s mandate is to focus on international priorities related to academic programs under the Provost’s portfolio, including the international student experience, global learning and our enrolment goals.
In her new role, Tian will collaborate closely with the Office of the Vice-President (International and Enterprise) to maximize our institutional impact internationally. She will direct the development of our transnational education strategy and contribute to the implementation of the Integrated Enrolment Growth Plan and our Student Experience Action Plan as core focal areas for her work. As a member of the Provost’s leadership team, Tian will work to build meaningful connections between faculties and programs in service of 伊人直播's academic mission. Tian and the IEE unit will continue to report to Melissa Padfield, Deputy Provost (Students and Enrolment).
Tian is a Professor in the Faculty of Engineering where she's taught and conducted research in the Department of Mechanical Engineering for nearly 20 years. In addition to her teaching and research excellence which earned her prestigious recognitions such as the Rutherford Award for Excellence in Undergraduate Teaching, Tier-1 Canada Research Chair, and Fellow of the Canadian Academy of Engineering, Tian has served in various leadership roles including Associate Chair (Research) in the Department of Mechanical Engineering, Association Dean (Programs & Planning) in the Faculty of Engineering and Academic Co-Chair for WISEST (Women in Scholarship, Engineering, Science and Technology). Tian was the recipient of the University Cup, the 伊人直播's highest recognition, in 2024.
We are grateful to Acting Vice-Provost and Associate Vice-President (International) Doug Weir for his strong leadership of the teams in IEE since January 2025. Doug’s capable oversight through a period of significant change has set up IEE for ongoing success in the years ahead. Doug will remain as a key leader in the portfolio as Executive Director for IEE.
Please join us in welcoming Tian to her new role!
