Tracy Raivio

Tracy Raivio is the Dean and Vice-Provost of the Faculty of Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies (GPS).

Verna’s Vlog is a series in which Verna Yiu, Provost and Vice-President (Academic), sits down with some of the incredible people who are a part of the 伊人直播 community to share their stories and learn more about what they do.

In this episode, Verna discusses the strategic direction of the Faculty of Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies (GPS). Following a multitude of conversations and collaboration with partners across campus, GPS is launching the new GPS Action and Partnership Plan. The plan defines GPS’ role on campus, establishes principles for community interaction and sets the future direction for graduate education and postdoctoral research.

Two major initiatives related to the plan took effect on September 1, 2025. The first was the establishment of minimum guaranteed funding for PhD students in years one through four of their program, a key step in committing to PhD students and acknowledging their integral role driving research and discovery on campus. GPS also launched the Slate admission platform, a system created to improve the experience for both students and administrative staff during the application process.

GPS also led, in partnership with the Vice-Provost Programs and the Office of Online and Continuing Education, the development of a new graduate program framework that creates pathways and programs for a more diverse body of graduate learners that includes mature and professional students interested in expanding their skill set.
