Internet Encyclopedia of Ukraine

Since its launch in 2002, the IEU website () has attracted over 40 million directed searches for information from visitors all over the world. Following upon its authoritative and influential printed predecessor, the Encyclopedia of Ukraine (5 vols, 1984–93), the IEU’s importance as a worldwide information resource about Ukraine and Ukrainians has continued to be vital—especially in the context of the continued full-scale Russo-Ukrainian war. Visitors worldwide turn to the IEU for accessible and reliable information that allows them to understand the context and dramatic events of the war, as well as many other culture-historical topics.

The IEU team is working on the creation of an Internet database based on the revised and updated contents of the five-volume Encyclopedia of Ukraine (EU, University of Toronto Press, 1984-93) edited by Volodymyr Kubijovyc (vols. 1-2) and Danylo Husar Struk (vols. 3-5).

Once completed, the (IEU) will be the most comprehensive source of information in English on Ukraine, its history, people, geography, society, economy, and cultural heritage. The IEU team, led by Marko R. Stech, has been working continuously to expand and update the content of the encyclopedia entries.  Our ability to update this information and the speed with which we can make it available to Internet users worldwide will greatly depend on the availability of financial resources for our project.
