Evaluation + Progression
The following guidelines outline student progression and academic standing within the AIWMU program. This section details the processes for annual evaluation, the requirements for promotion to the next year of study, the criteria for successful course completion, and the expected standards for student participation and professionalism throughout the curriculum.

Evaluation
- Each year must be successfully completed before moving on to the next year.
- The AIWMU program has an Academic Standing Committee that meets after each year to review all students’ marks, approve grades and make recommendations for promotion to the next year.
Assessments + Pass Requirements
- Courses have many components. All components must be passed for students to successfully complete a course.
- Written tests/quizzes/exams have a pass mark of 63%. Students have two opportunities to pass each assessment/quiz/exam.
- There are additional assessments/forms that faculty use to assess students including their contribution to Discovery Learning (DL), and some also evaluate the professionalism students exhibit during a course.
- Students who fail a course or rotation must meet with the Director to explore issues affecting their academic success and explore options for academic support, remediation and coaching.
Student Participation
- All students are expected to attend and participate actively in sessions.
- In Phases 1 and 2, in both lecture-based and small group learning contexts (such as DL), students receive marks based on their participation.
- DL provides an opportunity for medical students to apply lecture material and basic science knowledge to clinical cases. Each case is explored during three sessions scheduled over the course of a week.
- Excused absences from sessions are permitted, but if a student expects to miss a class, the student must inform the program in advance and submit an absence request through the appropriate avenue.
Feedback: Course + Instructor Evaluation
A variety of evaluation forms are used throughout the program. Students are asked to complete these for faculty, peers and tutors, as well as individual courses and sessions.
